Kids Mediate - Gwernyfed
Gwernyfed High School - Peer Mediation
Claire Jackson delivered training to volunteers in Years 7 in February 2019. Some of the children had previously been peer mediators in Hay-on-Wye Primary. Head John Williams was keen to retain the skills learned and in paricular use them to help children transitioning from Primary to High School.
The course has been tailor-made for secondary school level and in particular considers the roles that we take in conflict. Advanced training is given in reframing and questioning techniques. The role plays incorporate issues relating to social media where it impacts the school, sexual pressure, relationship break ups and academic pressure.
Thanks to Powys Association Voluntary Organisations for providing the funding for this work.
